CITY COUNCIL APPROVES ECONOMIC
DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION AND IS SEEKING MEMBERS
INTERESTED???
One of the goals of Mayor Jett, as well other City Council members is
an Economic Development Commission. The Commission will consist of nine members,
including Mayor Jett and one Alderman, appointed annually by Mayor Jett with
the advice and consent of the City Council.
The City is
seeking SEVEN members to fill the remaining seats.
What’s involved with serving as
a Economic Development Commission Member? When will the Commission meet? Are the meetings open to the public? What’s the purpose of the Commission? What kind of time commitment is required? Do you need to live in the City to serve on
the Commission? When will the
Commission members be chosen?
The Commission
will meet at least quarterly but could meet more often. This, along with the day and time will be
determined once the Commission is formed and members can provide input. The meetings will be open to the public,
include an opportunity for the public to comment and meeting minutes
taken similar to all other meetings.
Members of the Economic Development Commission can be City residents but do
not have to reside within the City but must live within one and one-half miles of
the corporate limits of the City of McHenry.
Members who do not reside in the City or live
within one and one-half miles of the corporate limits of the City must own a commercial
or industrial property or be the owner, officer, or a managing executive of a
business or industry located in the City of McHenry.
Generally, the
duties of the Commission are as follows however, the Commission could
establish additional/more specific goals and objectives once it is established.
- Review and provide advice to improve the business section on the
City’s website as well as other forms of marketing which could assist the
City in carrying out the primary functions of the Economic Development Commission;
- Discuss opportunities to carry out primary functions through use of focus groups;
business retention visits; and other potential gatherings with a
designated sector of the business community;
- Perform an annual review and update of business informational
materials and new business welcome letter or other materials;
- Mail recognition letters to noted business successes and/or other
forms of business recognition;
- Provide annual report to the City Council including goals for the
upcoming year, to be completed at the end of the City’s fiscal year;
- Additional special projects to be conducted annually, as needed. Examples may include surveys, business recognition events, seminars and/or newsletters, etc.
This is a priority for the City therefore applications will be accepted
and reviewed as they are received and brought to the City Council for
consideration as soon as a full Commission can be established in accordance with the provisions included in the ordinance adopted by the City Council.
If you are interested in serving on the Commission-please complete the application,

RICKY ROCKETS DEVELOPMENT MOVING
FORWARD
Construction at the northwest corner of Chapel Hill Road and Riverside
Drive will be commencing in the next few weeks.
The project, branded Ricky Rockets Fueling Center, includes 14 fueling
pumps; an 8,400 square-foot convenience store with an attached 1,800
square-foot retail space; an automobile washing facility; three diesel fueling
dispensing stations and an additional 8,400 square-foot freestanding retail
building to the west of the fueling center.
There will be no vehicular access/connection to Eastwood Manor Subdivision to the
north. The developer is extending the
City’s watermain to Chapel Hill Road from its current terminus by Culver’s
Restaurant. Additionally, the developer
has agreed to front up to $20,000-to be reimbursed through a sales tax rebate,
towards the cost of a new City of McHenry gateway sign at this location.
LED lighting will be utilized to direct light directly to the source it’s
intended to serve and reduce glare. A 25-foot landscape buffer will be installed
along the north property line including a combination of fencing and landscaping. Overnight parking of commercial trucks is
prohibited and no truck stop amenities, such as showers or laundry facilities
are permitted.
Once the project begins construction time is approximately seven
months. This has been a collaborative effort
between the City of McHenry; County of McHenry; Illinois Department of
Transportation; local residents and businesses (within City and outside of
City); Riverside Chocolate Factory; Eastwood Manor Residents and the Developer
and will be a great addition to our City.
