A DAY AT PETERSEN FARM:  JUNE 26, 2016

Mark your calendar for the City of McHenry’s annual Colby-Petersen Farm celebration on Sunday, June 26, 2016, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 4112 McCullom Lake Road, one mile West of Route 31.  Co-sponsored by the McHenry Farm Bureau and Colby-Petersen Farm Foundation, admission and all activities are free.

This year's event has the theme "A Hundred Years Ago Today," with artifacts and exhibits showing McHenry County farm life in 1916.  There will be hayrides, farm animals, music and children’s games.   Everyone may try milking McHenry's life-size fiberglass dairy cow replica "Cowleen," as it was done on dairy farms long ago.

Visitor will see crafts, textile demonstrations, blacksmithing, a farm garden and farm equipment displays.  Newly displayed this year will be an operating 100 year-old steam-powered tractor.   Children can use an old wringer washer to wash clothes and hang them out to dry.  Miss McHenry 2016 and her Court will be introduced.

The 1862 farmhouse parlor, kitchen and garage will be open for tours, with period furniture, photographs and kitchen equipment on display.  The Farm opens at 10:00 a.m., with entertainment and activities concluding at 4:00 p.m.  Local merchants will sell refreshments. Free parking is available on the adjoining grassy field.

The Farm was formed in 1842 and acquired from the Colby and Petersen families by the City of McHenry for preservation of our agricultural heritage.  With its outbuildings and oak savannah, it will become an agricultural museum and resource center.  It will promote tourism within our area and preserve the flavor of life in McHenry County in the 19th and early 20th Centuries. The Colby-Petersen Farm Foundation has been established to assist in maintaining and developing the property.

The City of McHenry Landmark Commission supports development of the Farm and also helps to implement the historic preservation ordinance through education, guidance and technical assistance to building restoration projects by McHenry property owners.

CONGRATULATIONS ROCK SOLID BUILDERS…AUTO VILLA MOVING INTO FORMER EXTREME JEEP SITE…..TWISTED LIMITS OPENS AT 3735 W ELM….PICTURES ALONG THE MCHENRY RIVERWALK

AUTO VILLA OPENING AT 3017 W ROUTE 120

Auto Villa, with an existing location at 302 S. Lake Street http://www.grayslakeautovilla.com/ and another formerly east of the City of McHenry and outside of the City’s corporate limits (1701 W Illinois Route 120), has executed a lease for the property located at 3017 W Illinois Route 120 (formerly Extreme Jeep).  They are currently undertaking building and site improvements and renovations and will soon open an automobile dealership, with four service bays.   The City Council approved up to $150,000 in the form of a sales tax rebate for the following improvements to the property:

·       Parking lot seal coating and striping

·       Four new truck lifts and installation

·        Interior and exterior painting and signage

·        Air Compressor and installation

·        Interior and Exterior LED lighting conversion

·        Roof, interior ceiling tile and HVAC replacement

Given the 2015 sales at 1701 W Route 120, which the location in the City of McHenry replaces, of $4.1 million, under the proposed sales tax rebate structure for the property at 3017 W Illinois Route 120, the City of McHenry will receive $20,500 for the first five years and $30,750 for years six through ten assuming no growth in sales and $41,000 after year ten.  The assessed valuation of the property, 3017 W Illinois Route, has decreased by $10,000 between 2013 and 2015.

The aforementioned improvements must be completed and paid for upfront by the owner of the property or Auto Villa and no sales tax will be rebated until Auto Villa is open and selling vehicles.  This is strictly a reimbursement for specific improvements and the reimbursement comes out of the sales tax generated solely by Auto Villa.

The site had previously been home to a flea market but has been vacant and underutilized for many years.  Many of the surrounding properties are also vacant, and this area along Route 120, east of the Fox River, is very challenging for prospective retailers because it’s east of Richmond Road and far enough away from Chapel Hill Road which make it difficult to justify for many retailers to locate at the site which otherwise may locate on North Richmond Road or conversely closer to Chapel Hill Road and Illinois Route 120.

Auto Villa fills a large hole and will greatly contribute to revitalizing Route 120 east of the Fox River.

Thank you Auto Villa for choosing the City of McHenry!
