BULLDOG ALEHOUSE COMING…BUSINESS EXPO…BEER BACON AND BIKES… POLAR PLUNGE FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS!!!!!!

BULLDOG ALEHOUSE IS BACK TO STAY

In January 2016 Bulldog Alehouse, http://www.bulldogalehouse.com/, appeared before the McHenry City Council to allow outdoor seating and dining at 209 Front Street (former site of Las Palmas Restaurant).

However, not unlike many transactions, the deal did not come to fruition.  At the time Bulldog was opening another location, financing may not have been where it needed to be but as a City we knew Bulldog Alehouse would be a great addition to our community and kept pursuing them, keeping in touch knowing that at some point the timing would work.

Well, the time is now.  Last night the McHenry City Council approved a liquor license transfer for Bulldog Alehouse to take over the existing Marzano’s location at 1501 South Route 31-adjacent to  the Hampton Inn.

The Marzano’s site had been on the market for a while and Bulldog previously had considered the location but again a few months back the deal did not happen.  Patience is a virtue particularly in economic development and persistence pays off.

Bulldog Alehouse has signed a contract to take over the existing building at 1501 S Route 31 and should be opening in the next few weeks.  We are very excited about Bulldog coming to McHenry and know they will be very successful!

DOWNTOWN THEATER ONE STEP CLOSER TO REOPENING…CHECK OUT MCHENRY EVENTS WEBSITE!!!

REDEVELOPMENT OF DOWNTOWN THEATER

On Monday the McHenry City Council approved an application by Boone Creek Crossing LLC to redevelop the former McHenry Theater building including the partial use and improvement of Walsh Park immediately to the south.  The proposal includes a movie theater, along with a restaurant, indoor and outdoor entertainment and outdoor seating on Walsh Park.
The City has been working for over two years to find an avenue so the downtown theater could be reopened.  It is very integral to the City’s downtown revitalization efforts; will generate activity and promote the use of other businesses and is yet another step towards a more vibrant downtown.
Having a restaurant component will further enhance not only this site but downtown as well.  Below is an interior/exterior layout and rendering of the building upon completion.

Downtown Revitalization has been a priority for the City for numerous years and many actions have been taken to assist with this effort including:  establishment of tax increment financing district, completion of Downtown Plan, Overlay District with Design Guidelines, development of Riverwalk in conjunction with McHenry Riverwalk Foundation, redevelopment of former McHenry Hospital site, purchase of Miller Point site, installation of public boat piers, along with wayfinding signage, joint marketing efforts of community events in cooperation with businesses, McHenry Area Chamber, Downtown Business Association, McHenry Outdoor, McHenry Rotary Sunrise and Kiwanis Clubs and Green Street Cruise Nights, etc.

All of these efforts contribute to a vibrant downtown, along with attracting new tenants and prospective developers downtown and assisting in bringing residents and visitors and keeping people within the downtown district.

Downtown revitalization is an ongoing process which takes continued effort and time and having and sustaining a vibrant downtown is an integral component of any successful community contributing greatly to a high quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors.  The reopening of the theater is a crucial step in the revitalization of our downtown!
