AT THE END OF THE DAY COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IS ABOUT PEOPLE!!!

COLLIER HOUSE FUNDRAISER ON NOVEMBER 5 AT MCHENRY VFW

A fundraiser is being held at the McHenry VFW Post 4600, 3002 W Illinois Route 120 on November 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to raise money for Collier House, a not-for-profit organization which has provided a respite in Clark, Wyoming for families who have lost loved ones while serving the United States of America.
On July 8, 2004 Spc. Collier E. Barcus, was killed while serving our country in Iraq. Collier’s mother Sandra established Collier House.  Collier Barcus was an amazing individual and Sandra Barcus, through the generosity of numerous people and organizations built Collier House.  It is an amazing story and I encourage you-to learn more at www.collierhouse.org.

The Vision Statement for Collier House is:
“Families who pass through Collier House, will remember the sacrifice made by my son and the sons and daughters of these families. It is our hope that Collier’s sacrifice will bring Peace to the world, one family at a time. We hope these families will return to their communities and lead whole, happy and productive lives in a place where PEACE . . . is a way of life.”
If you are interested in supporting this wonderful organization you can purchase tickets on the day of the event or in advance. The cost is $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 4 to 9.  Children three and younger are free.  I had the opportunity and privilege to attend the honorary street sign dedication ceremony for Spc. Collier E. Barcus in 2006.  Photographs from that event follow.

BENEFIT FOR THORNTON FAMILY…NOVEMBER 19 AT OFFSIDES SPORTS BAR AND GRILL
A benefit will be held for the Thornton Family on November 19, from 3:00 pm to 2:00 am at Offsides Sports Bar, 680 S Eastwood Drive in Woodstock.  In May of this year, Amy and Mike Thornton were in a major traffic accident.  Amy Thornton died as a result of that accident and Mike is slowly recovering from significant injuries he suffered but is incurring major medical expenses.

When I first heard and then read about this and their two children, Zach 18 and Mikey 14, and both kids graduating, while their parents were in the hospital it broke my heart.  I have never met and do not know the family; however, I can’t even begin to imagine what this family is still going through to this day.  Please visit https://www.facebook.com/events/637750239731683 or contact Aimee Jones at ajones2022@comcast.net or 815-728-7358 for more information.

Community and Economic Development is many things but it all comes down to people.  People are what matter and the rest is just details.  People need people and people are what make communities thrive!
