“KEEP THE SPIRIT OF 45 ALIVE” EVENT AUGUST 14, 2016 CITY OF MCHENRY

“KEEP THE SPIRIT OF 45 ALIVE” DAY IS A NATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE HONORING MEMBERS OF “THE GREATEST GENERATION” AND THE END OF WWII

AUGUST 14, 2016 IS MCHENRY’S OBSERVANCE OF “KEEP THE SPIRIT OF 45 ALIVE” DAY AT 5:00 PM IN VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK

“The Combined Veterans of McHenry once again invite the public to celebrate Keep the Spirit of ’45 A  live Day at 5 p.m. Aug. 14 at Veterans Memorial Park in McHenry.  For the past six years, this event has been the largest of its kind in the U.S.

It features a short program recognizing World War II veterans in attendance followed by live music and dancing with Bill’s Little Big Band, along with the radio voice of Lou Rugani from WLIP Radio. Pat Wirtz will have WWII memorabilia from the McHenry County Historical Society on display along with Eric Miller and his Pearl Harbor display. The program will conclude with the sounding of rolling taps by no less than 18 buglers, which surely will bring a tear to your eye.

Our Greatest Generation is slowly getting smaller, and what better way as veterans and citizens of our country to help celebrate.

Last but not least, I would like to thank our outgoing Master of Ceremonies Ron Bykowski, who started this great event. I have had the privilege of working with Ron since the beginning, and his enthusiasm has been rubbing off on many of us in the veteran community.

Seating will be reserved for WWII veterans and their families, so please remember to bring lawn chairs. Hope to see you all there to once again make this the largest Keep the Spirit of ’45 Alive event again in America.”

McHenry’s events over the past several years have gained national recognition for our City and Combined Veterans Organizations in large part due to local businessman Ron Bykowski.  He initiated the event and attended the “Keep The Spirit of 45 Alive National Conference in San Diego at the Air & Space Museum.  Representatives from 37 States were extremely impressed that a City the size of McHenry has three active Veterans organizations:  American Legion Post 491, VFW Post 4600 and Polish Legion of American Veterans Liberty Post 188. Each organization has played an important role in fostering the enrichment of patriotic and civic spirit within our community.  Thank you to those who serve and have served our country!!!
