The second phase of the roadway improvements to
Charles Miller/Bull Valley Road and Illinois Route 31 (approximately 85% completed) will be done this year. McHenry
County, in conjunction with the project engineer and contractor, has done an
excellent job providing regular updates on the construction. The following is a link to the project
website where you can find current status and other pertinent details: http://www.charlesmillerroad.com/.
Additionally, Knox Drive was recently
extended from its terminus at Municipal Drive south to Charles Miller
Road. When the second phase of the Charles Miller Road project is completed
businesses south of Bank Drive along Illinois Route 31 will be restricted to a
right-in/right-out only to and from Illinois Route 31.
The new Knox Drive extension, a collaborative effort between McHenry County, the
City of McHenry and local businesses provides a much
needed secondary access for businesses with frontage on South Illinois Route 31
north of Bull Valley Road. Click on following link: to view an aerial
photograph depicting access locations for entire area including Knox Drive extension:
In addition to the businesses north of Bull
Valley/Charles Miller Road, the businesses south of the intersection are
impacted, as well as those east and west of the intersection. If you are traveling south on Illinois Route
31 you can make a legal U-Turn at Mercy Drive and Illinois Route 31 to access
the businesses on the east side of Route 31.

31:
If you need to access Centegra Hospital the attached link provides an

Please go out of your way to patronize businesses impacted by
road construction projects before, during and after the project is
completed. Also take extra care while
driving through construction zones to ensure the safety of the workers. Invite out of town relatives/friends to the
City of McHenry and patronize a business impacted by road construction. If you cannot patronize a business during
construction hours for one reason or another-visit the business after construction
has been completed for the day or before it begins. Follow the construction progress and schedule
times to patronize businesses when it may be more convenient to do so.
Support businesses via e-mail and social media
to encourage others to patronize them.
If you are interested in additional information about businesses and
road construction please click on the following link: http://mchenrymarketpulse.blogspot.com/2015/05/put-on-brakes-and-support-local.html.
Road construction and improvements are
necessary and enhance accessibility and facilitate the free and safe moving of
vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic however there is definitely an
adjustment period in which businesses located within the vicinity of whatever
road project is occurring are impacted.
