NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY; NATIONAL MANUFACTURING DAY; MARYA DIXON DAY; TRAFFIC LIGHT AT DARTMOOR DRIVE AND CRYSTAL LAKE ROAD, COUNTRY MEADOWS CRAFT SHOW!!

NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY

At the September 14th City Council meeting Mayor Low proclaimed Saturday September 19, 2015 as National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.  Next time you have the opportunity please take a moment to thank a law enforcement officer for serving our community and protecting residents, businesses and visitors alike.  Although we may not see everything that goes into day-to-day police work there is a great deal of comfort knowing we live in a very safe City which contributes to a high quality of life.  People who put their lives on the line every day ensure this is the case and although it is not always obvious a great deal of effort is placed into proactively protecting our community, educating residents and businesses; interacting with our schools daily and working in conjunction with other agencies including the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.

Another way to show support for law enforcement officers is to participate in the “Blue Ribbon Campaign.”  Tie a blue ribbon around a tree, replace an outside bulb with a blue bulb, use a bow, cut a tablecloth into strips, take a roll, of blue ribbon used for wrapping presents…The important thing is to show your support!  THANK YOU!

 NATIONAL MANUFACTURING DAY-OCTOBER 2, 2015

At the September 14th City Council meeting Mayor Low proclaimed Saturday October 2, 2015 as National Manufacturing Day.  The City of McHenry is home to numerous national and international manufacturers in industrial and business parks across the City.  Often these businesses are not at the forefront in a community due to being located and segregated in industrial and business parks, which you may never see if you don’t work at a particular business within that park.

However, these businesses are primary employers and provide numerous jobs to residents and people outside the City.  If you have time, take a drive or walk thru one or all of the industrial or business parks and note the businesses within such parks.  Following is a map depicting all of the business and industrial parks in the City of McHenry.

You will be amazed at what is produced and manufactured in the City of McHenry which is utilized worldwide.  We are lucky to have a solid industrial base, which is an integral component of our local and regional economy.  To learn more about National Manufacturing Day please visit:  http://www.mfgday.com/.

SEPTEMBER 20, 2015 MARYA DIXON DAY

At the September 14th City Council meeting Mayor Low proclaimed Sunday September 20, 2015 as Marya Dixon Day.  Marya Dixon served on the City of McHenry Landmark Commission for over 30 years!!!  This is the definition of community service.  I have had the opportunity to work with Marya Dixon and the Landmark Commission and can attest to the important role they play in the maintaining, preserving and promoting the City’s historic fabric.  We are lucky to have a group of individuals which take an active interest in ensuring our past is never forgotten and Marya Dixon should be commended for her years of service to the City of McHenry and advancing the goals of the City of McHenry Landmark Commission!  THANK YOU!

The City of McHenry Landmark Commission's Mission “Is to encourage preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptation of structures, landscapes and areas representing the city's heritage for the present and future citizens of McHenry through on-going activities in education, technology, special events, surveys, interviews and recognitions.”  Are you interested in learning more about the Landmark Commission or becoming a member?  Please visit http://www.ci.mchenry.il.us/departments/community/landmark.html or call me and I will point you in the right direction!

TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT DARTMOOR DRIVE AND CRYSTAL LAKE ROAD

Work has commenced on a traffic control signal at Dartmoor Drive and Crystal Lake Road.  The project includes the installation of a four-way traffic light, similar to the traffic signal at Winding Creek Drive and Crystal Lake Road.  The traffic signal will assist in facilitating the safer movement of vehicles through the intersection but will also provide a safe route for students walking to Riverwood Elementary School as well as McHenry High School West Campus in addition those who want to utilize City parks (Fox Ridge; Jaycees and Cold Springs Parks as well as the McHenry County Conservation District Prairie Path).  The project does not include any new lanes for traffic or roadway widening and will be completed this year!

Economic development encompasses numerous things including:  community service, events, tourism, history and other factors which people and businesses consider when deciding where to locate, reside or visit.  Public safety, infrastructure, schools, libraries, parks, open space, hospitals and other institutions play a pivotal role in an holistic approach to economic development and are extremely integral to a community’s vitality.  The City of McHenry is proud to have a community which includes all of these and a place people are proud to live, visit and do business.  Please help us accomplish this goal to the greatest extent practical for businesses, residents, visitors and the City!
The City Council is continually evaluating ways to assist in promoting business, tourism, community events and service!  Economic development is an ongoing effort the City is committed to and is a community-wide effort.  At the end of the day the entire community and everyone who is a part of it benefits!
